Extremal isolated horizons: a local uniqueness theorem
We derive all the axi-symmetric, vacuum and electrovac extremal isolated horizons. It turns out that for every horizon in this class, the induced metric tensor, the rotation 1-form potential and the pullback of the electromagnetic field necessarily coincide with those induced by the monopolar, extremal Kerr– Newman solution on the event horizon. We also discuss the general case of a symmetric, ...
متن کاملA Local Uniqueness Theorem for Weighted Radon Transforms
We consider a weighted Radon transform in the plane, Rm(ξ, η) = R R f(x, ξx + η)m(x, ξ, η)dx, where m(x, ξ, η) is a smooth, positive function. Using an extension of an argument of Strichartz we prove a local injectivity theorem for Rm for essentially the same class of m(x, ξ, η) that was considered by Gindikin in his article in this issue.
متن کامل1 The First Law of Isolated Horizons via Noether Theorem
A general recipe proposed elsewhere to define, via Noether theorem, the variation of energy for a natural field theory is applied to Einstein-Maxwell theory. The electromagnetic field is analysed in the geometric framework of natural bundles. Einstein-Maxwell theory turns then out to be natural rather than gauge-natural. As a consequence of this assumption a correction termà la Regge-Teitelboim...
متن کاملThe Local Limit Theorem: A Historical Perspective
The local limit theorem describes how the density of a sum of random variables follows the normal curve. However the local limit theorem is often seen as a curiosity of no particular importance when compared with the central limit theorem. Nevertheless the local limit theorem came first and is in fact associated with the foundation of probability theory by Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fer...
متن کاملA Uniqueness Theorem for Clustering
Despite the widespread use of Clustering, there is distressingly little general theory of clustering available. Questions like “What distinguishes a clustering of data from other data partitioning?”, “Are there any principles governing all clustering paradigms?”, “How should a user choose an appropriate clustering algorithm for a particular task?”, etc. are almost completely unanswered by the e...
